EXPO 2022 for Argentina
It has been a very tight game. Memebers of the Bureau of International Expositions (BIE) were to decide by vote who is going to organize EXPO 2022/2023. Representations of Łódź, Minneapolis and Buenos Aires tried to win the favor of voters until the last minute. The capital city of Argentina remained victorious. Congratulations!
6 more votes was everything Łódź needed to win the rights to organize EXPO 2022/2023. The voting took place in Paris on Wednesday, 15th November 2017 during the 162. session of the Bureau of International Expositions. Headquarters of the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development for a short while became a battlefield. The main prize: International EXPO 2022/2023. Three countries stood up to fight: United States of America, Poland and Argentina. After the first round of voting Poland and Argentina were going head-to-head, both receiving 46 votes. On this stage USA left the competition with only 25 votes. This gave Poland hope that the dream will come true. Unfortunately, the second round has tipped the scale in favor of Argentina. Final results: 62 votes for Buenos Aires and 56 votes for Łódź.
That defeat is no discouragement for the Polish team. Quite the opposite actually! Poland has come very far in its efforts to host the international exhibition. The results show that we are ready to take up a challenge with international outreach. Most of the investments started during the preparation stage will see the light of day despite the failure because they’re essential for the future development of Łódź. Instead of giving up hope, the city of Łódź already has another chance on its radar: this time it’s EXPO 2024.
International EXPO in Buenos Aires will have a theme of “Science, Innovation, Art and Creativity for Human Development. Creative Industries in Digital Convergence”. It is one of the so-called small EXPOs that take place between the world editions.
